The BOE session uses bidirectional HeartBeat messages to monitor connectivity between the client and the gateway when no other traffic is being exchanged. In the Handler API this message is represented by OnixS::ICE::BOE::Messaging::HeartBeat. The Handler manages heartbeat processing automatically, so application code does not need to send or track heartbeat messages explicitly.

Heartbeat Interval

According to ICE Binary Order and Utility Service API Technical Specification, the default heartbeat interval is 30 seconds. The client can override this value through OnixS::ICE::BOE::SessionSettings::keepAliveInterval, which is used by the Handler when establishing the session. The minimum allowed interval is 1 second.
